Shin-Etsu International in Amsterdam this month adopted one of our oldest and largest clients as a subsidiary. The purchase of the Portuguese PVC producer Cires will broaden Shin-Etsu International's portfolio of products.
This is a relationship that goes back a long way. Shin-Etsu was involved when Cires was first established in 1960. Ever since then, Shin-Etsu has been a shareholder in the company, but until this month Cires had been both a client of VCM and a distant competitor on the PVC market place.
Cires is a PVC producer with a capacity of 200 kt. The company also has two subsidiaries which are involved in compounding (combining PVC with other additives). While Shin-Etsu PVC B.V. specializes in bulk grade PVC, Cires has a wider range of products with k-values and types of PVC that are aimed more at niche markets.
Not only are the product ranges different, but the markets too. Most clients in Spain and Portugal are small and in many cases they work with packaged material. Cires also has a packaging facility, making it well-equipped to handle exports for the Mediterranean area.
We wish our new partner every success under the Shin-Etsu flag!
