Sustainability

Manufacturers and processors of PVC are collectively aiming for sustainable applications of PVC - applications with the lowest (acceptable) impact on humans and the environment. The impressive durability of PVC building products is an example of this.

Vinyl 2010 is the European PVC sector's (www.vinyl.org) long-term plan to increase the sustainability of PVC throughout its lifecycle. This involves continuous improvement of products, manufacturing processes, investment in technology, the minimization of emissions and waste and the stimulation of collection and recycling of PVC.

The PVC sector has launched the organization Recovinyl in order to promote the collection and recycling of post-consumer PVC. The aim is to attract a steady flow of PVC building waste into the recycling sector in Europe.

A considerable part of the PVC we produce is processed into plastic pipes and frames for the building industry. These, too, are recycled, for example by Bureauleiding or VKG.
