At De Notenboom in Mechelen (Belgium) they know that there is music in PVC. Recently they started a special school project in which pupils make musical instruments from waste. For example, a drum or a wind instrument made from discarded PVC pipes. 'Music is only a method,' says chairman Jos Maes. 'We want to make children think about reusing materials. Nevertheless, quality comes first. If it doesn’t the sound right, we are not doing well.’ And it has to be said: the instruments sound surprisingly good indeed.
